Term 2, 2008 Under the Sea
The Junior School will be working towards:
* developing knowledge of marine life and their habitats;
* understanding how some creatures are adapted to live under the sea;
* understanding how humans impact on the ocean and its living creatures;
* understanding how people can work together to protect the ocean;
* understanding how marine life are interdependent (e.g. food chains).
In 2008 Streeton will be home to a new Discovery Centre. The centre will be used by the Junior School (Preps, Grade ones and Grade twos). The centre allows students to learn through an inquiry based curriculum. An inquiry based curriculum allows children to be actively involved in their learning, and to revisit and redevelop their understandings as they experience more. The children will be encouraged to investigate, and explore ideas to seek further knowledge. The Discovery Centre integrates a variety of curriculum areas, such as visual arts, performance arts, role plays, science, writing, problem solving, maths, speaking and listening, reading, and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).
